“Dr. Crawford’s presentation was the highlight of the conference and a much needed reminder for all of us (especially nurses) to keep it all balanced. Bill’s psychology background surely protruded through his messages and I know it was well-received by all!”

“Until we understand why we react to certain situations with stress, anger, or frustration, we will not have the clarity necessary to deal with life from a place of confidence, creativity, or compassion.”

~ Bill Crawford

Understanding “Why”

This is what I do… I help people understand the “why” behind our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors by applying the latest brain research, and giving people the information they need to know what’s going on (with themselves and others) and the tools they need to become more influential in the process.

For those of you who follow my “Life from the Top of the Mind” philosophy, you know that the part of the brain that determines how we react to situations is the middle brain, or the limbic system. Unfortunately, the prime directive of this part of the brain is to keep us alive as a specie, and therefore it tends to interpret anything that is negative as dangerous. This throws us into the lower brain (the brainstem) where stress hormones such as cortisol are triggered so that we are ready to either fight the danger or run away.

However, because few if any of the situations we deal with today truly call for a fight or flight reaction, we can easily find ourselves trapped in this limited, limiting brain feeling frustrated and powerless.

The solution is to retrain the limbic system to interpret data in such a way that it engages the upper 80% of the brain, or the neocortex (what I call the Top of the Mind), so that we can access the clarity, confidence, and creativity so necessary to deal with today’s world.

If you would like me to do this for your organization, feel free to contact me, because until we understand the why or what’s going on, we will forever be at the mercy of the people and situations we encounter.

~ All the best, Dr. Bill
